Aurike Quintelier is architect met een praktijk die zich uitstrekt over het ontwerpen van gebouwen, site-specifieke installaties, tekeningen, en verzamelingen. De focus ligt op de verbinding tussen mens en plek, met 'plek’ als de biotoop, het organisme waar we als mens deel van uitmaken. Ze graaft voorzichtig naar bestaande symbiotische relaties, legt onderzoekend verhalen bloot die er al zijn en acht zo die verbinding beter te begrijpen. De architectuur is waar mogelijk vernaculair, met zorg voor de materialen/planten/wezens reeds aanwezig, en met een grote link naar de geopolitieke en/of historische context.
In haar residentiële architectuur vormt de persoonlijke band tussen de opdrachtgever en de plek waar ge- of verbouwd wordt een essentiëel puzzelstuk in het ontwerponderzoek. Verhalen uit het dagdagelijkse leven worden in kaart gebracht en ruimtelijk met elkaar in dialoog gebracht. Quintelier gelooft in de kracht van de wederzijdse zorg die ontstaat tussen mensen en de plek waar ze zich thuisvoelen, en helpt een zorgvuldig ruimtelijk antwoord te bieden die die zorg versterkt.
In de publieke ruimte wordt de gebruiker een ander soort bewoner. Quintelier zoekt naar gemeenschappelijke verhalen, stelt de vraag wat ons collectief verbindt met een plek en met elkaar. Ruimtelijkheid krijgt hier een breder maatschappelijk veld, waarbij ze haar positie als architect binnen de gemeenschap onderzoekt, alsook haar verantwoordelijkheid tot kritisch denken.
Quintelier's conceptuele architectuur, dat zich uit in onder andere site-specifieke installaties, groeit vanuit gelijkaardige bodem. Opnieuw stelt ze de vraag welke verhalen zorgvuldig kunnen worden blootgelegd en in een collectief, ruimtelijk verhaal verbonden zijn, zonder frictie en spanningsvelden uit de weg te gaan.

Aurike Quintelier is an architect whose practice spans buildings, site-specific installations, drawings, and archived collections. The focus lies on the connection between people and place, with 'place' as the biotope, the organism of which we, as humans, are a part. By carefully digging for existing symbiotic relations, uncovering stories that are already there, she aims to better understand the connection. Where possible, the architecture is vernacular, showing care for the materials, plants, and beings already present, and maintaining a strong link to the geopolitical and/or historical context.
In her residential architecture, the personal bond between the client and the place being built / renovated forms an essential puzzle piece in the design research. Stories from everyday life are mapped out and brought into spatial dialogue with one another. Quintelier believes in the power of the mutual care between people and the place they feel at home, and helps to provide a careful spatial response that strengthens that care.
In public space, the user becomes a different kind of resident. Quintelier seeks shared stories, posing the question of what connects us collectively to a place and to one another. Here, spatiality acquires a broader societal dimension, in which she examines her position as an architect within the community, as well as her responsibility to think critically.
Quintelier's conceptual architecture, which manifests itself in, among other things, site-specific installations, grows from similar ground. Once again, she asks which stories can be carefully uncovered and connected within a collective, spatial narrative, without avoiding friction and tension.
